The Discalced Carmelite Friars of the California-Arizona Province
http://discalcedcarmelitefriars.com

The Discalced Carmelite Friars of the California-Arizona Province are sons of Saint Teresa of Jesus (of Avila). As members of the international Order of Discalced Carmelites we observe a common life of prayer and apostolic activity as prescribed in the Gospel and envisioned by our Holy Mother, Saint Teresa and our Holy Father, St. John of the Cross. We have eight houses in California, Arizona, Washington, Oregon and Uganda, Africa where we serve the Church in bringing souls to Jesus through parishes, retreat houses, a spiritual institute and a foreign mission.

Along with the world-wide Discalced Carmelite Order, we are proud and blessed to anticipate and prepare for the 500th anniversary of the birth of St. Teresa of Jesus in 2015. Our major event for this occasion is the “Celebration of The Creative Spiritual Genius of St. Teresa of Avila Today” in San Jose, California from August 21-23, 2014. The idea for this began organically and has grown into something greater than originally envisioned and has begun to gather international attention.  We hope that you will join us in the celebration of the life, spirit and legacy of Saint Teresa. She has so much to say to us. Although she was born five hundred years ago, she remains our contemporary.

With great joy we sponsor this celebration and we are extremely grateful to our event committee: Sr. Claire Sokol, O.C.D. (representing the Discalced Carmelite Nuns); Cherry Caparas, O.C.D.S. and Theresa Thomas, O.C.D.S. (representing the Secular Carmelites) and Fr. Gerald Werner, O.C.D. (representing the Discalced Carmelite Friars).  They have created a program which we trust will bring great honor to St. Teresa and even greater glory to God.
